What kind of warranty do you offer on your products?
Our products carry a lifetime warranty against defects
in materials and workmanship under normal use. We stand
behind our products, and will repair or replace any defective
item at no charge.
Do your products require assembly?
YES, all of our Bunk Beds and Loft Beds require some simple
assembly that is easily accomplished by the average homeowner.
Our products require significantly less assembly than
most store-bought beds because the end sections are
already pre-assembled by us (except for Queen Loft Beds
and L-Shape Beds, which are shipped unassembled). Written
assembly directions with pictures (some models include an
assembly video) are included.
What tools do I need to assemble my bed?
You will need the following common tools to assemble any
of our beds: a hammer, a Phillips screwdriver or power drill
with Phillips bit (preferred), and a socket wrench with
a 7/16" socket.
It's also good to have a helper available to hold things
steady while you assemble.
Do you have a showroom where we can see your products?
Unfortunately, we don't have any of our products in a retail
space at this time. Some years ago we did, and may do so
again in the future if we find a retailer we enjoy working
with.
Meanwhile, if you're in the Seattle area, you are welcome
to stop by our shop and see at least one or two models in
progress, and look through our portfolio - see our Contact
Us page for more information.
Can you do custom dimensions, such as a taller or shorter
Loft Bed? How about extra clearance underneath?
YES. We have many requests to alter some of the basic dimensions
of our beds, such as the overall height or underneath clearance.
Some folks want to take advantage of taller ceilings, or
to accommodate lower ceilings. Please let us know what your
situation is, and we'll do our best to create a perfect
fit.
Do I need a ladder with the Bunk Bed or Loft Bed?
Our Bunk Beds and Loft Beds have a series of "steps"
on each end that are designed to be climbed. However, smaller
kids might need a ladder because the reach between steps
is less on a ladder than on the ends. Many adults also prefer
climbing a ladder rather than climbing the ends. Our standard
ladders have 5 steps, and for taller custom Loft Beds, we
add a 6th step to the ladder to reduce the stretch.
What we recommend is that if you're unsure whether you
want a ladder, go ahead and place your order without the
ladder, and you can always order one later on.
Can your Bunk Beds be separated into two separate beds?
YES. You can take them apart any time and make a separate
bed out of each bunk. This is a great option when it is
time for the kids to get their own rooms, or a turf war
breaks out and one of them must be sent to sleep in the
basement.
Can I use my existing mattress on your beds?
YES, depending on its size and overall thickness. Our Bunk
Beds and Loft Beds are built to accommodate a 9" maximum
thickness (thinner is okay), and will fit standard mattress
lengths and widths. If you're unsure, please contact
us.
Why do you recommend the Lacquer finish?
We recommend lacquer because it is the best finish we have
found for our products. The lacquer protects the wood from
moisture, and at the same time penetrates into the surface,
bringing out the natural beauty of the wood...lacquer makes
the wood "come alive" (not to sound too corny,
but it's true). The lacquer also provides a semi-glossy
surface that is easy to clean, and looks great.
Can you build a _____ in OAK?
Unfortunately, we're not able to offer our products in
anything beside Douglas Fir or Pine at the current time.
Do you do custom woodworking?
SOMETIMES, depending on the type of work you desire and
our relative level of expertise. We have been approached
for various projects in the past, and are always willing
to take a serious look at it. When we feel we're a good
fit for a certain project, we'll be glad to create a quote
for you.
What's the difference between Douglas Fir and Pine?
The most obvious differences between them is that Douglas
Fir is much stronger, denser, and harder than Pine. In terms
of appearance, they both have their strong points. Douglas
Fir has very prominent and interesting grain, and tends
to be more orange, tan, and salmon in color; Pine tends
to be more white and yellow in color, and the grain is less
pronounced. Both woods make for a very strong and beautiful
bed. You can read more about these woods in our About
Our Beds Our Wood section.
